Gatesman Takes Home Three Gold and Nine Silver ADDYs at the 2017 American Advertising Awards
Agency Awarded for Outstanding Work on Behalf of Duquesne Light, SHOP ‘n SAVE, Big Dog Coffee and Bubba’s Burghers

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – March 13, 2017 – Gatesman, one of the Northeast’s premier marketing communications agencies, received three gold and nine silver ADDYs at the 2016-2017 American Advertising Awards on March 10, 2017. The agency was recognized for outstanding work on behalf of Duquesne Light, SHOP ‘n SAVE, Big Dog Coffee and Bubba’s Gourmet Burghers and Beer.

Gatesman received three gold honors in the following categories:

Duquesne Light Company’s social media strategy is centered on providing timely and topical content to its customers. To stay relevant during the fall season, Gatesman creatively connected its business to Halloween through a short video featuring a light bulb. Each time the light bulb spun, it would turn into a different Halloween monster such as Frankenstein, a ghost or Dracula. At the end of the video, the bulb lit up and displayed a “Happy Halloween” message from the brand.
Longtime client, SHOP ‘n SAVE, served as title sponsor of the Westmoreland County International Airshow this past May for the second consecutive year. To help promote the event to the grocer’s Facebook fans, the Agency created a series of animated GIFs that tied food items to the Airshow; for example, bell peppers lighting up a tarmac, an airplane flying over a field of broccoli and popsicles as traffic wands.
Big Dog Coffee, an independently owned coffee shop located in the South Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh, is a business frequented by Gatesman employees. The shop’s quirky artwork inspired the Agency to create a poster campaign that depicted dogs “shaking off” a late night, a morning commute, a snow day and more, with the help of a Big Dog Coffee.
The Agency’s work on behalf of Bubba’s Burghers, a Bridgeville-based restaurant specializing in gourmet burgers and craft beer, included a full brand launch. The physical location, plating, menu, out-of-home and more was designed to showcase the brand’s unique personality while highlighting what sets them apart from the region’s other specialty burger restaurants.
The American Advertising Awards (the ADDYs) is the advertising industry’s largest competition, attracting over 50,000 entries each year in local markets. Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), its mission is to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising. A distinguished panel of advertising professionals nationwide judged the Pittsburgh ADDY entries.
The awards show was held Friday, March 10 at the August Wilson Center.
