PITTSBURGH Jan. 27, 2023 Gatesman is celebrating agency-wide success following eight wins at the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Pittsburgh chapter’s annual Renaissance Awards ceremony on Jan. 26.

“The work we do at Gatesman is always a team effort, and I’m very proud that these wins are a reflection of the many different talents that make up our agency,” said Beth Thompson, VP, director of public relations and social media. “The wins achieved demonstrate the team's commitment to each other and a standard of excellence to earn great results for our clients. I applaud this crew for showing up each and every day while delivering skills and expertise that make a meaningful impact.”

The Renaissance Awards are the highest honor given by the Pittsburgh PRSA chapter and recognize the best public relations campaigns, tactics and practitioners in the area. Gatesman’s PR and social media team was presented with 5 Renaissance Awards and 3 Awards of Merit spanning diverse categories, along with a recognition as a Best in Show finalist.

Gatesman 2023 Renaissance Awards include:

Regulated Communications Campaign: Established in 2021 as the philanthropic arm of CNX Resources, CNX Foundation generates long-term, sustainable returns for the region, the energy industry and local communities across the Appalachian Basin. With a $30 million commitment toward improving urban and rural areas in the region, Gatesman was tasked with crafting a comprehensive communications plan that amplifies the impact of CNX’s community investments. With Gatesman’s support, the organization has been able to tap into additional key pillars, drive employee engagement across CNX Resources and develop a cadence for properly sharing CNX Foundation’s impact.

Podcast: USG Corporation and Gatesman embarked on a new campaign to educate USG’s established audiences. Backed by its Hacking Human Behavior™ model and powerful research toolbox, Gatesman developed the Off The Wall podcast to share drywall expertise from experienced contractors. Gatesman used a cross-platform approach to amplify awareness of Off the Wall by creating social posts announcing the episode drops. Contractors were highly receptive to the podcasts; some social media users even suggested potential topics for future videos.

Press Release: Gatesman was tasked by TruHearing, the market leader in hearing healthcare benefits, to support the development and promotion of a survey that aimed to understand the connection between Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and hearing benefits. The results were turned into multiple press releases shared with national and trade outlets, which led to an interview and feature story by HR Magazine, the leading outlet for HR professionals.

Integrated Marketing Campaign: The Pace Suburban Bus ADA Paratransit campaign utilized a variety of tactics and materials to increase awareness of the tools available to Chicagoland paratransit riders and their caretakers to enhance their ride. Through paid and organic social, website updates, a new tutorial video, informational mailers and more, Gatesman succeeded in increasing awareness of Pace’s Ventra and TripCheck tools, with usage of both tools increasing significantly following the launch of the campaign.

Video: In addition to client work, Gatesman was also recognized for a new agency social media series, On the Rocks. The short Instagram videos feature a new Gatesman team member in each episode, casting a spotlight on the professionals behind Hacking Human Behavior in a fun, lighthearted manner.

Gatesman 2023 PRSA Awards of Merit include:

Integrated Marketing Campaign: During the 2022 National Donate Life Month in April, Gatesman helped the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) partner with the Pittsburgh Penguins to launch the Pittsburgh Penguins Fans Saves Lives campaign. The effort incentivized Penguins fans to support or consider organ donation through social, programmatic, radio, earned media and in-game activations. The teams saw immense success by directly securing 85 new registrations and influencing thousands of people to keep organ donation top-of-mind.

Integrated Marketing Campaign: SHOP ‘n SAVE, an independently owned and operated grocery chain, challenged Gatesman to re-engage its primary audience and attract its secondary audience by creating awareness of the new and improved offerings the store has to offer post-COVID. Gatesman proposed the rebrand “Shop. Save. Enjoy Life.” using an integrated marketing strategy. Through broadcast, print and digital advertising, paid and organic social posts, website updates, paid search, programmatic and more, Gatesman successfully executed SHOP ‘n SAVE’s rebrand.

Event Campaign: To celebrate Eyeglass World's growing presence in the Pittsburgh area, the optical retailer enlisted Gatesman's support to coordinate a community screening event through a partnership with local non-profit For Good PGH. More than 100 community members, including many from underserved communities, received free vision screenings and vouchers for a free pair of eyeglasses from their local Eyeglass World.
